Break the chains of a broken society

Uncategorized Mar 28, 2019

G’day ,

I'm pretty open about the fact that I used to be an alcoholic. That was my big addiction. I wasn't medicating my pain with food or drugs.

It was all about alcohol.

As of December 2018, I'm two years sober.

I haven't touched a drop in all of that time and I don't miss it even a little bit.

And there's something that I've learned during that time. This is something that I saw during the early days when I stopped drinking.

Society's a little bit broken.

When I gave up the drink, I immediately got blowback from some of my "friends".

"You can have one!"

"You're boring if you're not drinking!"

The early days were the toughest because there were so many voices around me telling me to give in. Have that drink.

What harm could it do?

I'm an addict, so it would have caused a ton of harm.

That's when I realised that society's broken when it comes to alcohol. I did the research and found out that the majority of domestic violence issues come as a result of alcohol.

But you're not a man if you don't drink, right?

That's rubbish. And you're going to hear a lot of that sort of rubbish when you start making a transformation in your life. It doesn't have to be the booze. Your might have someone who tries to push you into that eating that dessert that you know you shouldn't have.

What harm could it cause?

Maybe you've got that smoking buddy at work who's constantly pushing you to come out for one after you've quit.

What harm could it cause?

If you're an addict like me, those little voices can put you on a slippery slope. Before you know it, you're back in the routines that you're trying to escape from.

Now, I'm not saying that mistakes aren't going to happen. Nobody's perfect and you're going to slip up along the way.

But ignore the voices. Ignore the people telling you that it's okay to numb your pain with crap.

That's how you start making the changes you need to make.

I believe in you.

Love,

Geoff xx"
