The other night, I found myself looking at Facebook. And I saw a friend of mine named Jo, who’s in real estate.
We met last year down in Ulladulla when I spoke at her company’s real estate awards.
Unfortunately, things aren’t going as well for Jo as they could be.
Jo’s mad into horses. She has three on this little ranch at her home and her daughter’s a show jumping champion.
Now, I hadn’t seen anything of Jo on Facebook for a few weeks. But the other night, I saw her post about how the last few weeks have been some of the hardest of her life.
As it turns out, lightning had struck at her property. Unfortunately, the lightning strike killed two of her horses.
Now I know they’re not human beings. But they’re animals. They’re living beings that we welcome into our lives and love. They’re part of the family and it’s an absolute tragedy when something so horrible happens to such pure beings.
Why am I sharing this story with you right now?
I want to make the point that life is a fragile thing. In an instant, it can be all over.
So don’t take anything for granted. Don’t assume that you can do the important things tomorrow because tomorrow might never come.
It’s so easy to get lost in the minutiae of life. We focus on the daily grind and worry and fret about all of the little things.
We do it so much that we lose sight of the things that really matter.
We focus on the crap and take all of the magical things in our lives for granted.
The magical things, like the people and the animals in our lives. They’re the most important things that we need to focus on because they’re not always going to be there.
And neither are you.
The point I’m making is that we’re all blessed in our own little ways. But sometimes, we forget it.
So I want you to take a little step back and just appreciate the magic in your life right now.
Never take it for granted.
