Getting Back to Basics (And How Success Adds Up)

It’s a new year and you’re probably just about getting used to being back at work.

Maybe you’re still wishing it was the holidays and you’re probably not alone in that.

Now, a new year is awesome for a lot of reasons. It’s a fresh start that gives us the chance to set some brand new goals for ourselves.

But there lies the trap.

Let’s say you’re looking to lose 50 kilos this year.

That’s a lot of weight. It’s so much that the number seems insurmountable.

That’s not to say it isn’t doable of course. But if you’re just saying that you want to lose 50 kilos, you’re going to have to wait a long time for that to happen.

That’s time where you can get discouraged and fall off the wagon. You start eating poorly again and boom!

What weight you did lose comes back and you’re no closer to your target.

What’s the secret?

We put success on a pedestal and we see these people who’ve lost loads of weight. They must know something that you don’t right?

The truth is that there’s no secret to success when it comes to losing weight.

It’s all about keeping it simple and attainable.

So, it’s here that I want you to get back to basics. Do the simple stuff, like planning your meals and cutting the foods that you know aren’t going to help you. Exercise when you can and do all of that good stuff.

But most importantly, look at that goal you set for yourself.

50 kilos in a year seems like a lot.

But what if you said 10 kilos in the next two months. Or 5 kilos this month?

Sounds a lot more doable, right?

It’s a lot easier to motivate yourself for these "smaller" and simpler goals.

And here’s the trick.

That success adds up. If you lose 5 kilos per month for the entire year, you’ll end up losing 60 kilos in total.

That even leaves you with some wiggle room on the 50-kilo target!

That’s my takeaway here. Keep it simple and attainable. And remember that success adds up over time.

I believe in you.
