I bet that the trap has caught every one of us at some point. I know it’s grabbed me a couple of times. And it’s so bloody difficult to escape from it.
Here’s how it works. When things are going well, we often forget where we’re going.
Now, what do I mean by that?
It’s the easiest thing in the world to look at your journey and feel upset that you’re not there yet. It’s especially easy when you’re just starting out. You’re not seeing the changes straight away and you forget why you’re doing the things you’re doing.
Of course you forget. You can’t see anything happening.
That’s the trap because there’s plenty of good stuff happening.
You’re making so many small changes each and every day. And over time, they’re building up and helping you to get where you need to be. But...
The more weight loss becomes a by-product in your life, the more weight you’re going to lose.
Getting rid of your problems and making changes in your life are the real goals.
So here’s what I want you to do.
Grab a piece of paper and write down the numbers 1 to 5. Now, list five things that you want to improve.
Get really specific here. For example, one of your things might be to eat less sugar. Or you might want to consume less caffeine. Maybe you want to knock alcohol on the head.
These five things can be anything as long as they’re specific to you.
Once you’ve got your list, attach a rating to each of your five things. Just a number from 1 to 10 to describe the amount of pain this problem causes you. The higher the number, the more pain.

Just a quick note
I really want you to be kind to yourself this week. Do not beat yourself up if you go a bit off track with the food and the celebrations. You are human and it is normal.
A perfect goal between now and January 7 is to maintain where you are, mentally and physically. That is what you should be aiming at. Any more than that is a bonus.
Sometimes the best goal is to maintain and then push again. You can’t go full speed all the time. Enjoy yourself with family and friends and "aim to maintain" over the next fortnight.
I promise if you can do that you will have a perfect platform to attack from in January. The road to success is not linear, sometimes we need to cruise a bit and then push hard again.
Weight loss, life, career, sports, everything, it is all the same. Enjoy this time (aim to maintain) and then lets rip in again January 7 together when we start the next 21 day challenge - boom.
